5 Healthy Activities to Do With Your Dad
By Brandi Goodman
Whether it's Father's Day, your dad's birthday, or simply a time you set to spend together, spending time with your dad is always worth it. Some might find it difficult to pick a good activity, though. You don't just want to sit around watching television all day -- especially in the summer. Consider some healthy activities to do with your dad so you can make the most of the time you have.
Take a Fishing Trip
Fishing is a great father/child activity. No matter how old you are, there's a fishing pole that will fit everyone's hand and height. Child sizes, poles for teens, and adult fishing poles are easily available at local shops or online. Take a fishing trip with your dad and enjoy the serenity of nature around you.
Go Golfing
If golfing is your dad's game, take him for a round. Golfing provides exercise and a mental health break. You can chat as you walk the range and make your shots. You don't even have to golf at a real range. Lots of miniature golf games are available at arcades and family entertainment centers for an easy option.
Take a Hike
A hike is a great way to spend an afternoon. You get plenty of exercise while exploring the beauty of nature. There are so many scenic views when you hike trails and mountain sides. Just be sure you each pack plenty of water, snacks, a map, compass, and first aid necessities so you're covered in case of a mishap.
Spend a Day at the Lake
A hot summer day is the perfect time for a day at the lake. Head there with your dad and grill some good food, enjoy time sitting around the park, and get out on the water any way you can. Swim, boat, or glide on the water for some fun and exercise.
Have a Game Night
You could stay in if the weather is too hot or it happens to rain. Just be sure you're involving movement for the healthiest experience. Have a game night, but don't just sit down with boards and pieces. Play horseshoes. Try a life-size game of yard Jenga in the living room. Try some sports games on a video game system that makes you move, swing, and dodge. You'll have a blast while burning calories.
Enjoy the time you can with your dad. Opt for a healthy activity that will keep the both of you engaged and moving for an even more worthwhile experience. It will create memories that will last a lifetime and boost your mental well-being in the process.
