Your Morning Routine Made Healthier
By Brandi Goodman
Jumping out of bed late and struggling to make it to work on time is not good for your stress levels or your mental health. Setting a routine makes it far easier to feel relaxed, accomplished, and stress-free so you can start your day out right and set the tone for how the rest of the day should be. Make your morning routine a healthy one for even better results and improved productivity.
Stretch Before Anything
The very first thing you should do is stretch your body. Whether you slept a full night or only got a few hours, you still laid in bed for quite a while. Your body may be stiff or sore because of it. You should stretch out your joints and get everything loosened up so you're able to get up and about easier and in less pain.
Drink a Glass of Water
You should also start your day with a glass of water. Water helps to wake up your organs and get all of your bodily systems functioning. You'll also be starting your metabolism so calories can be burned promptly. Water is also beneficial for brain functioning. You'll operate more efficiently if you're well-hydrated. Turn to water for your first cup instead of coffee or energy drinks so you can keep your mind satisfied and on track.
Have a Nutritious Breakfast
You need to eat in the morning so your hunger is satisfied and your growling stomach doesn't interrupt your productivity. Don't just grab something out the door, though -- especially if it's packed with calories and sugar. You need something nutritious and filling that will keep your body satisfied for a few hours. A protein shake is a good choice, as is a Greek yogurt with some nuts and berries. Eggs are also ideal.
Set a Plan for the Day
The morning is a great time to get your plan set for the day. Before you head out the door, make sure you have everything you need for the day and know your schedule. It will help to keep you on track better and ensure you're prepared.
A morning routine helps set the day's tone. Fail to follow it and you may end up feeling more scattered and rushed than usual. Take it slow and give yourself plenty of time so you can fully follow your routine and get a healthy start to your day that leads to a great day overall.
