Making the Move to a More Healthier You
By Stephen R. Farris
When it comes to healthy eating and exercising daily, your back, neck, and joints will thank you. That's because you're providing these areas (along with your heart, lungs, brain, muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc.) with the necessary vitamins, minerals, and nutrients they need. And with the addition to exercise, you're making them stronger.
If you're just starting your way towards eating healthier, you might try utilizing a few of these tips to help you get started. As always, check in with your primary physician and/or local chiropractor to make sure you're healthy enough to start a diet and/or exercise program.
Fill Up on Those Veggies
Have you had a craving for a bowl of steamed broccoli or spinach? Maybe it's the taste of a carrot or celery stick you're wanting. It's probably the result of your body craving the fiber and nutrients it needs. When eating healthy, it's a good idea to always have a side of fresh, steamed vegetables with your meal. Eating more vegetables can also give you a more fuller feeling and keep you from eating more than you should. Fresh vegetables can also reduce your risk of developing heart disease, high blood pressure, and/or diabetes.
Choose Wisely When Snacking
We're all guilty at times of eating in between meals. Usually it's something unhealthy like a bag of chips, a package of cookies, or a bowl of ice cream. Even when trying to eat healthy, you're going to have times that you feel hungry between meals, so it's important to choose wisely when it comes to snacks. Veggie sticks such as carrots, celery, or even raw broccoli florets, or chunks of cauliflower are great healthy (and wise) choices for snacks. Nuts like raw almonds, pistachios, walnuts, and cashews are considered great to snack on and are healthy for you.
Stay Active
Boredom and/or inactivity can sometimes lead to eating food when we really shouldn't be. It's important not to spend too much time sitting or lying around. At times like these, try taking a walk, or dig out that bike in the closet or garage and go for a spin. Do some yoga or tai chi. Keeping our mind and body active can reduce our temptation to eat because we're bored.
