Carbs Are Not All Bad
By Tom Herrin
Some things have bad reputations, and no matter what you hear differently, they stay that way. For those who are really concerned about diet, some foods make their way onto the list of those that seem to be taboo. Diets that are low in fat were big for a while. It seems that now a lot of people are really concerned about carbs. Some diets focus on eliminating as many carbs as possible, or so it seems, while having much larger amounts of fats. The goal apparently is to shift the way the body burns energy and cause it to burn more fats. Another concern about diets with lots of carbs is for those who may be diabetic. They must be careful with carbs. The more we understand carbs, the better we can plan.
What Is Simple
For the most part, simple is something that is not very complicated. With carbs, simple carbs are those that may be turned into sugar more easily. In some cases, they really are virtually straight sugar. As we balance our meals with a purpose, we may have some simple carbs included to provide us with what we may consider to be quick energy. Some people try to do this by drinking a soft drink that can help to pack in sugar, but it does little to actually help us. Simple carbs are just not going to stay with us for the duration and will be quickly used up.
How Complex Do Carbs Get?
The carbs that probably do us the most good are the complex ones. These carbs are such that they break down more slowly, so they can provide an energy supply for a longer period of time. When planning meals, it is good to have a reasonably good amount of complex carbs. This should help to prevent us from running out of gas, so to speak, and failing to have an adequate amount of energy to get through the day. The best of these are likely foods such as green and yellow vegetables.
Be a Little Careful With Juices
It is not to say that juices are bad, as they contain some good vitamins and minerals, but they are often high in sugar. The kinds of juices are a factor as well. Those that have added sugars are probably not going to be as healthy for you as those without. For some, eating the whole fruit is preferred because it may have less sugar and more of the natural fiber.
