A Pet May Be as Good as a Workout
By Tom Herrin
The world is full of pets. As we often see, they are all over the place. There are also some pretty unconventional ones, but the ones we are probably the most familiar with are those that are furry. It also seems that the more they appear to be able to react to us, the better. According to some sources, having a pet may be a really good way to boost health. Even though that may not be our prime reason for having one, they have a lot to offer. If you think back to our experiences with a pet, they are likely to be good ones.
The Influence on Our Chemistry
Apparently, having a pet may be able to have an effect on our chemical production or secretions. Cortisol is a hormone produced in the body, and it is believed to be there to help us react to negative or threatening situations. More commonly, it is one that increases our stress level. Keeping it lower is healthier for us overall. Having a pet is thought to help lower the level of this. On the other hand, a hormone that affects our mood in a positive way is oxytocin. The more we have, the better we feel. Having a pet is thought to help increase the levels of this in our body.
Pets May Be Heart-Healthy
Many pets do best if they have the opportunity to get out and move around. Taking a pet for a walk can help us to get some mild exercise. Once we have spent some time outdoors, we may find that it is a pretty enjoyable experience. It may then serve as a motivator. It is a great way to remain active because moving around with a pet can be much like moving around with a small child.
Everybody Needs Somebody Sometime..
Some of us love socializing, and some of us could pretty much care less. I am one of those who generally enjoys being to myself. Even at that, we all need some kind companionship. Pets make excellent company. They can fill the need of having to take care of someone else. They are almost always happy to see us when we get home, and they never argue with us when we talk to them. This may be the reason so many pet owners are so content.
