Put a Spring in Your Step With Adequate Hydration
By Donna Stark
Temperatures are starting to warm up, flip-flops are being pulled from the back of the closet, and tanks are replacing sweaters. Yes, winter is finally over and now you can start spending more time outdoors, but do you know what that means? It means you need to prioritize your daily hydration. Drinking the recommended amount of water each day should always be a goal, but it is especially important when you are outside and active. However, being told over and over again to drink more water can actually be quite boring, can't it? So, in order to pique your interest, your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have listed a few of their favorite ways to creatively consume more water. Take a look at what they suggest below.
Add Flavor
If you don't like the taste of water, there are plenty of ways to "dress" it up. You can sweeten the flavor by infusing it with orange, lemon, and lime slices. You can toss in a handful of berries and a couple sprigs of mint. Or you can do what all the spas in the country do and fill your water pitcher with slices of cucumber. But don't stop there! Remember, there are ice cubes in the picture here as well, so sprinkle some herbs in the next tray to be frozen. Basil and rosemary are great flavor enhancers!
Enjoy the Bubbles
Do you often reach for a can of soda because you love the fizziness of it? If so, put that can down and satisfy your craving by adding sparkling water to your day. There are plenty of sparkling waters on the market that are already flavored, but if you prefer to be in charge of the ingredients you put in your body, go ahead and flavor this healthy beverage on your own. Just follow the tips above.
Challenge a Friend
Does the thought of a friendly competition excite you? If so, challenge a friend in a match of superior hydration. How will that work? Well, each person can keep track of their water intake for a specific period of time. At the end of the challenge, the loser will, of course, need to do something nice for the winner. Perhaps a month's supply of water or a fancy new water bottle could be the prize?
Adequate Hydration Is Important All Year Long
Just because you aren't experiencing triple-digit temperatures yet doesn't mean you shouldn't prioritize your water intake. Adequate hydration is important all year long, so do whatever is necessary to increase the amount of water you drink. Besides, if you start paying attention to it now, it will be so much easier to do so during the summer!
