Adjust Your Nighttime Routine for Weight Loss
By Rachel Carver
The weight loss journey is different for everyone. But every journey requires consistency, faith, and being comfortable with the effects of your decisions. Weight loss is about developing healthy habits that lead to your desired scale number.
Preparation is also an important part of every weight loss journey. Setting a consistent nighttime routine can get you ready for the next day and keep you on the right track.
Here are some items to incorporate into your nighttime routine for successful weight loss.
Keep a Food Journal
Writing down your planned foods for the next day gives you a map to follow. Journaling is great for busy people or for those who need a visual of where their calories come from.
Prep Breakfast
Busy mornings make it tempting to skip breakfast. But this can leave you starving by your first morning meeting. Instead, focus on something simple you can make in advance. Overnight oats prep themselves as you sleep. Oats can keep you full longer, preventing you from overeating at lunch.
Plan Snacks and Lunch
Preparing food over the weekend makes lunches and snacks easier. However, you can also take advantage of dinner leftovers. Pack some lean proteins, veggies, and whole grains into a container you can grab as you leave in the morning. You can also portion foods into smaller containers to plan your snacks.
Plan Outfits
Mornings get rushed for many reasons. Avoid some of the rush by planning your clothes in the evening. This way, whether you hit the snooze button or not, your office and workout clothes are ready for you.
Add Workouts to Your Calendar
When you decide to work out, you are deciding to allocate your time to this activity. Add your workouts to your calendar to treat them like other engagements. Add your next workout to your calendar in the evening. Prioritizing it in this way will make you more likely to follow through.
Relax
We deal with stress all day. Dedicate some time to relax with an activity you enjoy. This will help you prepare for the next day. Take a yoga class. Read a book or go for an evening walk. Being intentional about relaxation sets us up to handle all of the next day's challenges.
The Bottom Line
Planning can go a long way. Give some thought to your plan so it works for you. And the evening is a great time to prepare for what comes next with a defined routine.
