Use Weights and Stay Younger

By Tom Herrin

Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer who searched diligently for a fountain of youth.  He mistakenly believed it was a magical place that could provide something that may keep people eternally young.  He was obviously wrong about it.  The notion of finding someplace that can provide us with an instant way to remain young is pretty far-fetched, but there are some things we can do to help deter the aging process in our bodies.  Lifting weights, though it may seem so, is not just for those who are young.  As we age, our bodies experience some changes.  Some of them are unavoidable, but others may happen more because of poor maintenance than anything else.

Lift and Stay Fit

Most of us have known someone who surprised us when we saw them after the passing of several years.  They may have appeared to be out of shape, have too little muscle, and have too much fat.  Much of this is because they allow it to happen.  It is pretty important to do what we can to keep our muscles working.  Working with weights can help to increase the metabolism.  This can help to burn fat and help the muscles and help the muscles to make better use of the nutrients we take in.  The result can be a body that may appear more toned.

Stay Mobile

Getting around is a bigger deal as we age than it is when we are young.  Some of the common issues with aging are often that we have trouble bending and straightening just about everything.  How often have you seen people who appear to be slumped over and barely able to move?  Working with weights can help to provide more strength and make movement easier.  This can ease the stress on joints and soft tissue.

Stay Mentally Keen

None of us wants to lose our mental abilities.  When we see others who have, it saddens us.  Working with weights can provide the kind of exercise that can help to keep the blood flowing and supply oxygen to the brain.  This is an important part of staying mentally alert.  It can help us to perform functions efficiently, and efficiency is often a key to keeping our bodies working at their best.  While this may sound like a lot of work, it can be done little-by-little and be much easier than you may think.
