Cleaning Chores Annoy Your Back? Your Chiropractor May Help
We all become fairly casual about everyday chores. They just keep coming and we try to knock them off as quickly and easily as possible. But sometimes at the end of the day our backs suggest we may have overdone it. Or if we work all week and then try to cram the house cleaning in on the weekend the protest level may go way up.
Chiropractors see the results of not taking precautions all of the time. If you start having twinges see your chiropractor to seek relief and find out what you may be doing wrong.
Protect your back as you keep the house clean.
The American Chiropractic Association says vacuuming, and lifting can strain the back. Take the time to learn the right way to do your household chores.
In lifting always bend from the knees, not the waist and keep the item (kids, buckets of water, whatever) close to the body. If you have to turn, step the same way as you are turning to avoid twisting the body and straining the spine. To vacuum, use a posture like fencers use. Put all your weight on one foot, then step forward and back with the other foot as you push the vacuum. Use the back foot as a pivot when you turn.
If you run into back pain see your doctor and chiropractor now.
Visiting the Chiropractor
Your chiropractor will begin with spinal adjustments that assess the nervous system. Then a discussion of the pain that you are having and how it happened will follow, along with a complete review of your medical history and an overview of your daily activities.
The chiropractor’s goal will always be to seek to relieve pain without medication or surgery. As you discuss your daily activities more pointers will probably come up on ways to get things done without triggering new injuries. Additional help with relaxation exercises and weight loss diets may come up to. Suggestions on yoga, Tai Chi, or meditation might be discussed too.
The chiropractor can be a key resource for staying active and healthy. I have watched many friends and relatives move through this process with back pain. With the chiropractor’s help they made it back to normal life, learning a lot of prevention tactics too.
